Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department fire investigators arrested two juveniles, Wednesday, January 23, 2008. The juveniles, both 16, are charged with manufacture, transportation, and use of fire bombs or explosive materials or devices, (Class 5 Felony, Virginia Code § 18.2-85), setting fire to a public building (Class 3 Felony Virginia Code § 18.2-79), and disorderly conduct in public places (Class 1 Misdemeanor, Virginia Code § 18.2-415).
The arrests are in connection with a school locker fire at Woodson High School, 9525 Main Street, Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at approximately 9:10 a.m. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $5,000.
They are being held at the Juvenile Detention Center, pending court hearing.
Authorized punishments for convictions of a felony/misdemeanor are:
- Class 5 felonies, a term of imprisonment of not less than one year nor more than ten years, or in the discretion of the jury or the court trying the case without a jury, confinement in jail for not more than twelve months and a fine of not more than $2,500, either or both.
- Class 3 felonies, a term of imprisonment of not less than five years nor more than twenty years and, subject to subdivision (g), a fine of not more than $100,000.
- Class 1 misdemeanor, confinement in jail for not more than 12 months and a fine of not more than $2,500, either or both.
