Apartment Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to an apartment fire, Saturday, May 24, 2008, at approximately 2:55 a.m. in the Kingstowne area of Fairfax County. The apartment is located at 7161 Silver Lake Boulevard.

Firefighters encountered fire and heavy smoke beneath the stairwell on the second floor upon arrival. The fire was contained by the sprinkler system and extinguished by the first alarm units. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes. Approximately 75 residents were temporarily evacuated from the building until the smoke could be cleared. Two residents were transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Damage is estimated at $75,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire started on the second floor stairwell within an enclosed stairwell system. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
