Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a fatal house fire at approximately 4:20 a.m., June 13, 2008, in the Town of Vienna. The single-family home is located at 308 Plum Street, SW.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire coming from the rear and sides of the one-story home upon arrival. The home and a near-by shed were fully involved with fire. A smoke alarm sounded providing early warning for two of the occupants who escaped with non-life threatening injuries. An adult female was dead at the scene. Subsequently, a second alarm was struck, bringing over 60 emergency personnel to the scene. The fire was brought under control in approximately 40 minutes.
One adult male was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and one adult male was transported to the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Washington, DC. Two adults have been displaced. A family dog also perished in the fire.
Damage is estimated at $300,000. The home is a complete loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
This is the fourth fire fatality of the year for Fairfax County.
