IAFC Presents 2008 Safety Leadership Award

Chief Ronald L. Mastin received the 2008 National Fire Fighter Near-Miss Reporting System Safety Leadership Award at the Fire and Rescue International Conference, sponsored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) in Denver, Colorado, August 14-16, 2008.

The Safety Leadership Award recognizes Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department’s exceptional work with the National Fire Fighter Near-Miss Reporting System, improving firefighter safety across the United States and internationally.

The Near-Miss Reporting System (www.firefighternearmiss.com) was launched over two years ago to give firefighters the opportunity to learn through real-life experiences, to help formulate strategies to reduce the frequency of firefighter injuries and fatalities, and to enhance the safety culture of the fire and emergency service.

The Safety Leadership Award is co-sponsored by the IAFC, the International Society of Fire Service Instructors, the Fire Department Safety Officers Association, and the IAFC Safety, Health, and Survival Section.
