Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 12:40 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2009, in the Springfield area. The single-family home is located at 6208 Kentland Street.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke from the rear of the two-story home upon arrival. The fire extended throughout the second floor, attic, and roof area. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. The fire originated in a second floor bathroom. Six adults and one child have been displaced. Red Cross is assisting the occupants. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $150,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire started as a result of a worker using a torch while sweating pipes.
