Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a reported outside fire, extending to a house Monday, March 9, 2009, at approximately 9 p.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The home is located at 4001 David Lane.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from several sides of the single-family, two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. Because of the heavy volume of fire and close proximity to other nearby homes, firefighters used defensive tactics to protect those homes to reduce property damage. As a result, only one home received minor radiant heat damage. Firefighters also contended with live electrical wires while fighting the fire. No one was residing in the home. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $180,000.
The fire is under investigation.
