Annandale House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Thursday, July 16, 2009, at approximately 4:40 a.m., in the Annandale area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 4007 Hirst Drive.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof of the one-story home upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes. The fire originated in a room on the first floor of the home. The home was vacant. The fire was reported by a neighbor that saw flames coming from the structure. There was one minor injury to a firefighter operating on the scene, but no medical treatment was needed.

Damage is estimated at $100,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
