McLean Office Building Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a building fire Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at approximately 2:15 p.m. The 10-story high-rise office building is located at 2010 Corporate Ridge Drive.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof area upon arrival. The Incident Commander called for subsequent second and third alarms, bringing approximately 90 firefighters to the scene. It took firefighters approximately one hour to extinguish the fire. The fire was primarily contained to approximately 750 sq. ft. of the metal roof; however, there was additional smoke, fire, and water damage to the floor below. The building was not reoccupied yesterday. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Construction workers using a propane torch while repairing the roof caused the fire.
