Centreville Townhouse Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a townhouse fire Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at approximately 11:10 a.m. in the Centreville area of Fairfax County. The townhouse is located at 13552 Darter Court.

Firefighters encountered smoke coming from the upper floor windows of the three-story, center unit townhouse upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. Two children and one adult were home when the fire started and escaped prior to units arriving. The fire originated in an upstairs bedroom. One child was transported to INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Two adults and two children have been displaced. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.

According to fire investigators, a child with matches started the fire.
