McLean House Fire, Firefighters Rescue Dog

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Monday, November 2,2009, at approximately 9:10 a.m., in the McLean area of Fairfax County.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from every window and the chimney of the single-family home upon arrival. The fire originated in the basement of thetwo-story, split-level home. During the primary search of the home, firefightersrescued a dog; however, another family dog perished in the fire despite resuscitation efforts by firefighters. Firefighters extinguished the fire in approximately 25 minutes. The fire originated in a basement wall. Two adults have been displaced. No one was home when the fire broke out. Red Cross assistance was not necessary.

Damage is estimated at $100,000.

The fire is under investigation.
