Jefferson Area House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Sunday, December 13, 2009, at approximately 6:20 a.m. in the Jefferson area of Fairfax County. The single family home is located at 3225 Blundell Road, Falls Church.

Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the rear of the cape cod style home upon arrival. Both occupants were alerted by a smoke alarm and escaped the home prior to firefighters arriving. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. Firefighters were able to contain the bulk of the fire to an enclosed porch in the rear of the home where the fire originated. An adult male and female were taken to Inova Fairfax hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Both occupants have been displaced. Red Cross is assisting.

Damage is estimated at $70,000.

The fire is under investigation.
