Springfield House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Monday,`January 25, 2010, at approximately 9:30 p.m. The two-story split level single-family home is located at 6825 Ridgeway Drive in the Springfield area of Fairfax County.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from both floors of the home upon arrival. Crews fought the fire from inside the home until conditions severely deteriorated and the floor began to collapse. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. All four occupants evacuated the home prior to arrival of firefighters. One firefighter received a non-life threatening injury and was transported to a local medical facility. Four adults have been displaced. Red Cross is assisting the occupants.

Damage is estimated at $175,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
