Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Sunday, January 31, 2010, at approximately 9 p.m. in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The townhouse is located at 2537 Herrell Court.
Firefighters encountered fire coming from the front and roof area of the townhouse upon arrival. Firefighters using an exterior attack brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. The Incident Commander struck a second alarm, bringing approximately 60 firefighters to the scene. No one was home when the fire broke out. There was minor smoke and fire damage to an adjacent townhouse unit. Two occupants from the adjacent home were transported to Fairfax hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
A total of four occupants were displaced from the two homes. Red Cross was not needed.
Damage is estimated at $150,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The fire was caused by an electrical furnace.
