Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Monday, June 14, 2010, at approximately 1:40 p.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The home is located at 2709 Ireland Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered fire coming from the attic, first, and second floors of the two-story single-family home. Due to the heavy volume of fire within the structure, a defensive exterior attack was initiated. Shortly thereafter firefighters went to an offensive interior attack to extinguish the fire. It took firefighters approximately 50 minutes to bring the fire under control.
One adult has been displaced. Red Cross is assisting. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
Damage is estimated at $126,270. The home is a total loss.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The cause of the fire was an electrical anomaly.
