News Release 10-101
Date: November 8, 2010
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to an under construction house fire on Sunday, November 7, 2010, at approximately 1:10 a.m., in the McLean area of Fairfax County. The home is located at 2142 Haycock Road.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from all sides of the single-family, three-story home upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. Because of the heavy volume of fire and close proximity to other nearby homes, firefighters used defensive measures to protect adjacent homes, reducing property damage. As a result, only one home received minor radiant heat damage. Firefighters also contended with an electrical pole on fire with multiple live wires above the structure while fighting the fire. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at approximately $1,000,000. The home is a complete loss.
The fire is under investigation.
