Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at approximately 9:40 p.m. in the Burke area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 9618 Braddock Road.
Firefighters arrived on scene of the two-story home with heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear and basement of the structure. Smoke alarms activated, providing early warning for the occupants to escape. It took firefighters approximately 90 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire originated in the basement and then traveled up the walls from the first and second floors of the home. A subsequent second fire alarm was struck by the Incident Commander, bringing approximately 60 firefighters to the emergency scene. Two adults have been displaced. Red Cross assistance was declined. One firefighter was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
Damage is estimated at $300,000.
The fire is under investigation.
