Accidental Basement Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Friday, February 25, 2011, at approximately 2:10 p.m., in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 2800 Marshall Street.

Firefighters saw smoke and fire coming from the front and basement upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. The fire was contained to the basement. Two adults have been displaced. Red Cross assistance was declined. There were no injuries. The home had working smoke alarms.

Damage is estimated at $75,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A malfunctioning water heater caused the fire.
