Smoke Alarm Alerts Annandale Occupant

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at approximately 2:20 p.m., in the Annandale area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 3798 Dade Drive.

Firefighters saw smoke and fire coming from the rear of the two-story home upon arrival. The fire had extended from the deck, up the vinyl siding, into the eves, and into the attic prior to firefighters arriving. Firefighters initiated both an exterior and interior fire attack, quickly bringing the fire under control. Firefighters extinguished the fire in approximately 15 minutes. A sleeping female teenager was alerted by a smoke alarm and escaped unharmed. There were no injuries. A total of four occupants have been displaced. Red Cross assistance was declined.

Damage is estimated at $43,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire originated on the rear deck. The fire remains under investigation.
