Accidental Annandale House Fire
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Friday, July 1, 2011, at approximately 3:20 p.m., in the Annandale area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 3901 Hummer Road.
Firefighters were initially dispatched for an outside fire, however, upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the right side of the two-story home. Fire had quickly spread to the basement, into the attic, and onto the roof area. Firefighters initially fought an interior attack, however, withdrew when fire conditions became untenable. Additionally, the fire burned a large hole through the roof. Extensive overhaul operations were conducted to ensure the fire was extinguished. The fire was brought under control in approximately 60 minutes. Three occupants have been displaced. Red Cross is assisting the family. Two firefighters were transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and later released.
Damage is estimated at $225,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An outside electrical panel caused the fire.
