Accidental Church Fire
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a church fire, Saturday, August 13, 2011, at approximately 11 p.m., in the Springfield area of Fairfax County. The Jordan Korean Baptist Church is located at 7100 Neuman Street.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the attic and roof area of the church upon arrival. The Incident Commander requested a second alarm bringing approximately 60 firefighters to the emergency. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 45 minutes. There was significant fire, smoke, and water damage to the interior of the church. The church was not occupied when the fire broke out. One firefighter suffered a non-life threatening injury and was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital and later released.
Damage is estimated at $150,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An outside electrical fire near the electrical meter caused the fire.
