Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to an apartment fire, Saturday, February 18, 2012, at approximately 7:50 p.m., in the Baileys Crossroads area of Fairfax County. The three-story apartment is located at 3409 Carlin Springs Road.
Firefighters reported light smoke coming from the front of a second floor apartment upon arrival. Firefighters conducted a primary search, while simultaneously attacking the fire in the second floor apartment. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes. Firefighters conducted salvage and overhaul operations to ensure any hidden fire hotspots were extinguished. There was moderate damage to the apartment of origin; however, apartments above and below only received minor water and smoke damage. Fire alarms provided early warning for residents. The fire originated in a bedroom closet. Two occupants have been displaced. Red Cross is assisting the occupants. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $75,000.
The fire is under investigation.
