When: Friday, April 20, 2012, 7 p.m.
For approximately five months, 28 recruit firefighters have been undergoing training to respond to fires, hazardous materials incidents, vehicle crashes and extrications, swift water rescue, confined space rescue, and emergency medical incidents. These firefighter/EMT recruits will officially become professional firefighters in Fairfax County upon graduation.
John W. Marshall, former Secretary of Public Safety, Commonwealth of Virginia, for eight years will be the keynote speaker. Award winning reporter, Gail Pennybacker, WJLA, ABC 7 News, will emcee.
Marshall began his career in public service and law enforcement in 1980 as a trooper with the Virginia State Police. During his 14-year career with the department, he also served as special agent in the narcotics division, a sergeant at the training academy, and later assigned to field operations and the motorcycle squad in Northern Virginia.
In 1994, President Clinton appointed him United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Virginia. In 1999, he was nominated and confirmed as the Director of the United States Marshals Service, the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency.
Marshall holds a bachelor’s in Government from Georgetown University, and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Administration of Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is also a graduate of the Federal Institute and Henry Toll Fellowship Program.
