Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Friday, June 1, 2012, at approximately 10:20 p.m., in the Oakton area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 3140 Trenholm Drive.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters attacked the fire from both the interior and exterior and brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. Firefighters contained the fire quickly enough to save about half the roof. There was extensive water damage to the second floor and minor damage to the first floor. The occupants escaped unharmed prior to firefighters arriving. Two adults have been displaced. Red Cross support was unnecessary.
Damage is estimated at $195,000.
According fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Lightning struck the roof, causing the fire.
