Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department fire investigators charged a juvenile for intentionally setting a playground fire, Saturday, June 23, 2012. Fire investigators are charging one juvenile with destruction of property greater than $200, Virginia Code 18.2-81, a class four felony, and Virginia Code 18.2-86, fire capable of spreading, a class six felony.
A fire was reported, June 15, 2012, at approximately 3:10 p.m. at 14095 Keepers Park, a common playground area in a housing development. Mulch in the playground was intentionally ignited and had spread to playground equipment and nearby bushes and trees when firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. There were no injuries.
Damage was estimated at $5,000.
