Alexandria Area House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Tuesday, July 11, 2012, in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The single family house is located at 4856 Cherokee Avenue.
Firefighters reported smoke coming from the basement of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive interior fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control. The fire was primarily contained to a storage room in the basement. Two adults and five children have been displaced. Red Cross is assisting the occupants. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $20,000.
The fire is under investigation.
