Firefighters Distribute Coats to Kids

Fairfax County firefighters, in cooperation with Operation Warm, Coats for Kids Foundation, Apple Federal Credit Union, Progressive Firefighters of Fairfax County, Inc., and the Fairfax County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics, will distribute new winter coats for children and youths through high school age, Wednesday, October 24, 2012, 11 a.m., at Penn Daw Fire and Rescue Station 11, 6624 Hulvey Terrace, Alexandria, Virginia.
Through generous support and donations from organizations and businesses, it is anticipated that more than 3,000 youths and their families will benefit. Area preschool children will also be on hand to receive new coats from firefighters. This is the sixth year the department has sponsored this community event.
The department coordinates distribution with Fairfax County Public Schools, the Department of Human Resources, Department of Family Services, and local shelters to reach a record number of youths this year.
Operation Warm is a non-profit organization partnering with organizations in 26 states helping to provide new winter coats to children who cannot afford them.
