Lorton House Fire Under Investigation

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at approximately 3:10 p.m. in the Lorton area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 8493 Sullenberger Court.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof and rear of the two-story home upon arrival. The Incident Commander called for a second alarm, bringing over 60 firefighters to the fire scene. Firefighters conducted an exterior fire attack, bringing the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes. Firefighters also conducted extensive salvage and overhaul operations attempting to save personal items from further damage. Firefighters confirmed the activation of smoke alarms in the home; however, no one was home when the fire broke out. Six occupants have been displaced. Red Cross support was declined. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $300,000.
The fire is under investigation.
