Fairfax County firefighters, in cooperation with Operation Warm, Coats for Kids Foundation, Apple Federal Credit Union, Progressive Firefighters of Fairfax County, and Fairfax County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics, will distribute new winter coats for children and youths through middle school age, Wednesday, October 30, 2013, 11 a.m., at Penn Daw Fire and Rescue Station 11, 6624 Hulvey Terrace, Alexandria, Virginia.

For the first time, these coats have been made in America, and are tagged "Firefighters Coats for Kids." This is the first year that made in America coats have been featured in the annual giveaway.

Through generous support and donations from organizations and businesses, including Nationwide Credit Corporation, Promax Realtors, Modern Technology Solutions, Fairfax County Federation of Teachers, Kilroy's Restaurant and Sports Bar, SEIU VA-512, ACBC, Medocracy, Inc., and the Rotary Club of Tyson Corner, it is anticipated that more than 2,200 youths and their families will benefit. Area preschool children will also be on hand to receive new coats from firefighters. This is the seventh year the department has sponsored this community event.

The department coordinates distribution with Fairfax County Public Schools, the Department of Human Resources, Department of Family Services, and local shelters to reach a record number of youths this year.

Operation Warm is a non-profit organization partnering with organizations in 40 states helping to provide new winter coats to children who cannot afford them. More than 60 fire departments are now participating in the annual coat giveaway throughout the country.
