Accidental Fairfax Station House Fire

Date:  November 15, 2013

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Thursday, November 14, 2013, at approximately 2:15 p.m., in the Fairfax Station area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 5704 Captain Jones Court.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the basement, quickly spreading to other floors of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. The home was vacant and under major renovation. One firefighter was transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Damage is estimated at $205,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Construction workers using a plumber's torch too close to combustibles caused the fire.
