Alexandria Townhouse Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a fire in a townhouse Thursday, December 19, 2013 at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The townhouse is located at 6533 Gildar Street.
Units from the Franconia station arrived less than five minutes after dispatch to report an end unit townhome with smoke showing from the rear of the home. Firefighters encountered smoke and fire in the basement of the townhome while conducting an aggressive fire attack. The fire was brought under control within minutes of their arrival. One adult female was transported to Washington Hospital Center for non-life threating injuries.
Damage is estimated at $75,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
