News Release 13-48
Date:  May 08, 2013

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department is making a special effort to reach out to residents in the community by hosting various activities at several county recreation centers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013, in support of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week. This year's theme is EMS: One Mission. One Team. The theme reflects that EMS providers don't choose the field for pay, comfortable working conditions, or nine to five work hours; they have a true calling to help and serve others in their hour of need.

Once again, partnering with the Park Authority, EMS providers will be available with various displays, educational materials for adults covering cardiac and stroke subjects, will provide blood pressure screenings, apparatus displays, and have one-on-one interaction with community residents. The following recreation centers are participating in EMS Week:

Cub Run Recreation Center
4630 Stonecroft Boulevard
Chantilly, VA
703-817-9407
South Run Recreation Center
7550 Reservation Drive
Springfield, VA
703-866-0566
Mount Vernon Recreation Center
2017 Belle View Boulevard
Alexandria, VA
703-768-3224
Spring Hill Recreation Center
1239 Spring Hill Road
McLean, VA
703-827-0989
Oak Marr Recreation Center
3200 Jermantown Road
Oakton, VA
703-281-6501

In fiscal year 2012, EMS providers responded to more than 67,000 EMS calls, and transported almost 49,000 patients to medical facilities.

Everyone is encouraged to visit a recreational center and participate in EMS Week.
