Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Wednesday, May 08, 2013, at approximately 5:34 a.m., in the Springfield area of Fairfax County. The single family home is located 6240 Willowfield Way.
Firefighters arrived on the scene within four minutes and encountered heavy fire and smoke engulfing the unoccupied two-story home. An adjacent home, located at 6244 Willowfield Way, also caught fire from the radiant heat from the original house fire. Due to the large amount of fire, a second alarm was requested bringing over 70 firefighters to the scene. Three citizens were evacuated from the exposure house on fire.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 45 minutes. There were no reported injuries to either civilian or firefighters. The family of three will be displaced. Red Cross support was offered but declined.
The first home, 6240 Willowfield Way, is a total loss estimated at $482,000.
The second home, 6244 Willowfield Way, damage is estimated at $200,000.
The Office of the Fire Marshal is currently on scene conducting an origin and cause of the fire.
