Richard Jacobi, 71, of 12810 Willow Glen Court, Herndon, Virginia, has been identified as the victim in the house fire, May 29, 2013, according to the medical examiner.
Fire investigators continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
Fairfax County has recorded four fire fatalities for 2013.
Fatal Herndon House Fire
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at approximately 10:55 p.m., in the Herndon area of Fairfax County. The single family home is located at 12810 Willow Glen Court.
Firefighters encountered the attached two-car garage fully involved with fire upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an interior and exterior fire attack of the two-story home and brought the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes. The fire extended into the roof and attic area causing moderate damage inside the home. Crews concurrently conducted both primary and secondary searches of the home. While searching the garage, firefighters discovered a deceased adult male. An adult female escaped the home unharmed. One firefighter received a non-life threatening injury. Red Cross is supporting the family. Firefighters and Animal Control Officers rescued 25 of 37 cats from inside the home.
Damage is estimated at $175,000.
The fire is under investigation.
Identification and cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
