Oakton House Fire

Date: July 22, 2013
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Saturday, July 20, 2013, at approximately 6:35 p.m., in the Oakton area of Fairfax County. The single family home is located at 3419 Ellmore Lane.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the two-story home upon arrival. A second alarm was struck by the Incident Commander, bringing approximately 60 firefighters to the scene. Firefighters conducted an aggressive exterior and interior fire attack, bringing the fire under control in less than 30 minutes. Fire quickly spread to the attic and roof causing extensive fire damage. No one was home when the fire broke out. One adult has been displaced. Red Cross support was offered but declined by the occupant. One firefighter received a non-life threatening injury.
Damage is estimated at approximately $250,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire originated on or under the rear deck. The fire remains under investigation.
