Adult Charged in Setting Townhouse Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue fire investigators charged, William J. Soper, 35, of 9039 Giltinan Court, with intentionally setting a fire, Saturday, August 10, 2013.
Soper intentionally set fire to several telephone books in a middle unit basement townhouse causing minor damage to the home. A battery powered smoke alarm had been disabled; however, a commercial fire alarm activated causing the alarm company to quickly notify the fire and rescue department. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.
Soper was charged with Virginia Code 18.2-86, a Class six felony.
Damage is estimated at $300.
