Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a townhouse fire Friday, April 11, 2014, at approximately 9:30 a.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The single-family townhouse is located at 8550 Wyngate Manor Court.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the second and third floors of the front and rear of the end unit townhouse upon arrival. A Fairfax County Police Officer had reported the fire while on routine patrol. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire damage was primarily contained to the kitchen area. The home had smoke damage throughout due to the heavy smoke. The four adults, who were not at home when the fire broke out, have been displaced and are being supported by the Red Cross. Two dogs perished in the fire.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.

The fire is under investigation.
