Maryland Man Charged in IED Bombings

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department fire investigators charged, Manuel Bell Joyner, 20, of the 600 block of Stillwater Place, Bowie, Maryland, June 1, 2014, with three felonies in connection with the multiple Improvised Explosive Device explosions at several theaters within the Tyson Corner AMC theater complex recently.
Joyner was charged with three counts of 18.2-85, create, possess, or use a bomb/explosive; three counts of 18.2-79, arson of an occupied public building; and three counts of 18.2-46.6, use/sell weapons/devices for a terrorist act.
Joyner was charged and arrested May 31, 2014, by the Prince George's Fire Marshal's Office for similar offenses. Additional charges in other jurisdictions may be forthcoming. He is being held in the Prince George's County jail.
The joint investigation included the FBI, ATF, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue and Police, Anne Arundel County Fire Marshall and Police, City of Alexandria Fire Marshal, the Montgomery County Fire Marshal, and other local police jurisdictions.
