Herndon House Fire, Under Investigation

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Thursday, June 26, 2014, at approximately 9:30 p.m., in the Herndon area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 540 Madison Street.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the front and sides of the split-level home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control. The home had no smoke alarms. Two occupants have been displaced. Red Cross support was offered but declined by the occupants. One occupant was transported for non-life threatening injuries.
Damage is estimated at $150,000.
The fire started in the kitchen/dining area and is under investigation.
