Accidental Office Building Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a high-rise building fire Thursday, July 10, 2014, at approximately 8:25 p.m., in the Tysons area of Fairfax County. The office building is located at 7900 Westpark Drive.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the 12-story building upon arrival. The Incident Commander struck a second alarm, bringing approximately 60 firefighters to the scene. Firefighters simultaneously ensured the entire evacuation of the building while conducting an aggressive fire attack. More than 70 occupants were evacuated, approximately 60 construction workers and a dozen office workers. The building is currently undergoing major renovation. It took firefighters approximately 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. Reoccupation of the building is to be determined. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at more than $50,000.
Outside water leaking into a transformer in the electrical room caused the fire.
