SIOC Smoke Alarm Alerts Mobile Home Occupants

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a mobile home fire Friday, August 15, 2014, at approximately 6:40 a.m., in the Woodlawn area of Fairfax County. The mobile home is located 4114 Galen Street.
Firefighters encountered smoke coming from the kitchen of the home upon arrival. Crews quickly conducted an aggressive fire attack and extinguished the fire. The four occupants were alerted by a sounding smoke alarm and all escaped unharmed. Firefighters had installed the smoke alarm earlier as part of the department's Safety In Our Community (SIOC) Program. Red Cross support was offered but declined by the occupants.
Damage was minimal and confined to the kitchen.
According to the Incident Commander, the fire was accidental. Combustibles in the oven caused the fire.
