Accidental West Springfield Townhouse Fire

Date:  August 29, 2014

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a townhouse fire Thursday, August 28, 2014, at approximately 6:05 p.m., in the Springfield area of Fairfax County. The single-family townhouse is located at 6401 Wainfleet Court.

Firefighters encountered smoke coming from the front of the three-story, end unit townhouse upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control in. A female adult escaped unharmed; however, four dogs perished in the fire. One occupant has been displaced. Red Cross support was offered but declined by the occupant.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A small appliance on the kitchen countertop caused the fire.
