116th Recruit Firefighter Graduation

Since October 17, 2005, 28 recruit firefighters from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department have been training to respond to hazardous materials incidents, emergency vehicle extrication operations, swift water, confined rescue, fire suppression, and emergency medical incidents. The 19-week recruit firefighter/EMT course is strenuous, both physically and mentally. Firefighter recruits will officially become professional firefighter/EMT’s upon graduation.

Chief Kelvin Cochran, Shreveport Fire Department, will be the graduation speaker. Chief Cochran was appointed to the position of Fire Chief in 1999. Chief Cochran worked his way through the ranks, serving as a firefighter, Training Officer, and Assistant Chief Training Officer.

Chief Cochrane holds a Master of Arts in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Louisiana Tech University and a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's (NFA) Executive Fire Officer Program (EFOP). His affiliations from local to national include: Caddo Parish Fire Chiefs, Louisiana Fire Chiefs, South-western Division, International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs section. He has been appointed as Chairman of the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Section and Chairman of the IAFC Program Planning Committee.
