The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department will recognize Stephen Wells, a county employee, Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at 10 a.m., at the Fairfax County Government Center for lifesaving actions taken during an medical emergency event.
On Saturday, June 10, 2006, Allan Kelly, Lorton, Virginia, went into sudden cardiac arrest while attending the Celebrate Fairfax Exposition. When Mr. Wells saw Mr. Kelly collapse and lose consciousness, he immediately retrieved a nearby Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and quickly activated it. The patient was defibrillated twice before the arrival of Fairfax County firefighters and paramedics.
Mr. Kelly was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and has recovered. For his quick thinking and lifesaving actions, Mr. Wells will be presented with a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Lifesaving Award.
Both individuals will be available for media interviews following the presentation.
