Since early June, 2006, recruit firefighters from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department have been training to respond to hazardous materials incidents, emergency vehicle extrications, swift water, confined rescue, fire suppression, and emergency medical incidents. The 19-week recruit firefighter/EMT course is strenuous, both physically and mentally. Firefighter recruits will officially become professional firefighter/EMTs upon graduation.

Chief Jones began his career in the fire service as a 22 year-old volunteer in North Hillsborough, Florida.
