Fairfax County firefighters and paramedics, Local 2068, Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), will host the MDA Kick-Off campaign of “Fill the Boot” at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 28, at Chantilly Fire and Rescue Station 15.
In the metropolitan Washington area, Fairfax County firefighters and paramedics have been MDA’s largest contributor. Firefighters will be collecting in high traffic areas over the Labor Day weekend for “Jerry’s Kids.”
The generosity from the community allowed firefighters to collect over $360,000 in 2006. The goal for this year is $375,000.
For more than 50 years, the IAFF has steadfastly supported the MDA and helped raise over $250 million. Proceeds raised will help support MDA services and research programs, including MDA’s outpatient clinics for people with neuromuscular diseases at Children’s National Medical Center and Georgetown University Hospital.
