Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, in cooperation with Coat-for-Kids Foundation, Progressive Firefighters of Fairfax County, Inc., and the Fairfax County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics, will be collecting and distributing new winter coats for youths, through high school age, October 15, 2008, at Penn Daw Fire and Rescue Station 11, 6624 Hulvey Terrace, Alexandria, Virginia. Hats and gloves will also be distributed.
Through generous support and donations from residents and businesses, it is anticipated that over 1,000 youths and their families will benefit. This is the third year firefighters and the department has sponsored this community event.
The department will coordinate distribution with Fairfax County Public Schools, the City of Alexandria Public Schools, the Department of Family Services, and local shelters to reach a record number of youths this year.
