This document lists the most common reasons for plan and shop drawing rejection.

FIRE ALARM SHOP DRAWINGS
1. Submittal is incomplete:
  a. symbols list/legend not provided.
  b. battery calculations not provided. NFPA 72 1-5.2.6.
2. Provide three copies of the manufacturer's cut sheets for all new devices being provided. USBC-VA 907.1.1.
3. The spacing of your audible/visual units does not comply with NFPA 72 4-4.4.1, 4-4.4.2.
4. Provide three copies of the sequence of operation for this system per USBC-VA 907.1.1.
5. Wiring diagram incorrect or unclear.

RANGE HOODS
1. Provide three copies of plans showing the locations and dimensions of all appliances. NFPA 17A 4-2, IBC 904.11.
2. Provide manufacturer's information regarding the            . Our information does not indicate the coverage limitation for this appliance. NFPA 17A 2-3.1.
3. Provide/show a manual actuation device > 10 & < 20 feet from the hood. IBC 904.11.1, NFPA 17A 3-2.1.3.
4. Note on plans that all fuel/electric supply will be arranged to shut down upon system activation. IBC 904.11.2.
5. Hood overhang does not appear to meet the required six inches beyond cooking surface. IMC 507.12.
6. Non-canopy hood must be so labeled. Must have proper setback and height above cooking surface. IMC 507.14.
7. Plans do not match the manufacturer's UL 300 design manual.

SPECIAL LOCKS/FIRE ALARM INTERFACE
1. Provide three copies of floor plan, showing all doors and devices, including:
  a. on which side and at what height each device is to be installed.
  b. the complete exiting pattern of the floor.
  c. a complete symbols list, along with door list, showing ratings and sizes of doors on which devices are installed.
  d. complete building address, floor number, tenant space name and number, contractor and submitter name, address, phone/fax.
2. Bill of materials not shown: all parts, components, and wiring, with cut sheets verifying listing of each item.
3. Sequence of operation erroneous or not provided: show conformity to IBC 1003.1.8.2, 1003.3.1.8.4, 1003.3.1.3.4
4. Wiring diagram not shown: provide details of any and all interfaces with fire alarm system. IBC 907.10
5. Power supply not shown. Show fail safe operation, details. IBC 907.10
6. Stair door unlock switch not shown. IBC 1003.3.1.8.1(2), 403.11
7. Signage not shown: provide full dimensioned text of required lettering and location relative to door, including height above finished floor and offset from door.
8. Two exits required from all points on floor, including elevator lobby. IBC 1005.2.1
9. Distinguish between the tenant side and the corridor/stairwell side of the door. IBC 1003.3.1.8
10. No phone communication connection to the central station is shown. IBC-403.11.1

SPRINKLER SHOP DRAWINGS
1. Unable to locate base building sprinkler plan for the address/building you have provided. Please verify building name and correct address. NFPA 13 8-1.1
2. Provide proper key plan showing location of work in building. NFPA 13 8-1.1.1
3. Provide location including street address and suite number. NFPA 13 8-1.1.1
4. Show all pipe sizes and types on drawings. NFPA 13 8-1.1.1
5. Plans as shown do not match base building piping/layout/head type. NFPA 13 8-1.1.1
6. Sprinkler cannot cover _______ sq. ft. per base building design. NFPA 13 5-5.2.2, 8-4.4.3.1
7. Small room rule does not permit exceeding designed sq. ft. coverage per head. NFPA 13 5-6.3.2.
8. Limited area sprinkler system requires hydraulic calculations. IBC 903.3.5.1.1.
9. Proper coverage required in all adjacent spaces. NFPA 13 5-1.1.
10. Does not meet criteria for walk through sprinkler plan review. (see Walk-Through Guidelines)
11. For a double interlock system, the area of sprinkler operation shall be increased by 30 percent. NFPA 13 7-2.3.2.6
12. Provide legible, current manufacturer's cut sheets for all system components. NFPA 13 8-1.1

TENANT PLAN REVIEW
1. Provide key plan showing location of space in building.
2. Provide size of space in square feet.
3. Define contents of space; define all work to be done. USBC-VA 111.4.
4. Provide completed building information sheet. Available in Code Reference Package. USBC-VA 111.4.
5. Dead end over 20/50 feet not permitted. IBC 1004.3.2.3.
6. Travel over 75 feet requires 2 remote exits. IBC 1004.2.5.
7. Floor must have minimum 2 remote exits. IBC 1005.2.1.
8. Over 50 people in space requires 2 remote exits. IBC 1004.2.1.
9. Door hardware does not conform to IBC 1003.3.1.8.
10. Stairs 3 levels or less shall be 1 hour rated. IBC 1005.3.2.
11. Stairs 4 levels or more shall be 2 hour rated. IBC 1005.3.2.
12. Exit lights required. IBC 1003.2.10.
13. Emergency egress lighting required. IBC 1003.2.11.
14. Exit access corridor requires 1 hour rating w/20 minute door with closers. IBC 1004.3.2.1.
15. Central station monitoring required. Provide name of same. IBC 903.4.1, 907.14.
16. Range hood pull station must be 10 to 20 feet from hood. IBC 904.11.1.
17. Provide fire dampers. IBC 715.
18. Pull stations to be no more than 5 feet from exit door. IBC 907.3.1.
19. Transfer grilles/ducts not permitted in exit access corridor. IBC 1004.3.2.4.
20. Separation required for mixed uses. IBC 302.3.
21. Provide fire alarm speakers. IBC 403.6.
22. Provide details of door hardware/special locking (wiring, location, & cut sheet). IBC 1003.1.8.2.
23. Provide full floor plan. USBC-VA 111.5.
24. Provide clear scaled drawings. USBC-VA 111.5.
25. Provide seating plan (scaled). IBC 1008.7.
26. Provide manufacturer's safety data sheets for all substances. IFC 2703.4.
27. Provide design number for floor/ceiling or other rated assembly. IBC 601.
28. Provide strobes per NFPA 72 6-4., ANSI A117.1.
29. Guestroom/dwelling or mall tenant demising walls shall be one hour rated. IBC 708.1.

UNDERGROUND/ABOVEGROUND TANKS
1. Provide three copies of plans showing the locations of tanks, distances from tank(s) to all structures, lot lines, etc., and showing all piping and appurtenances. USBC 111.4, 111.5.
2. Provide three copies of the elevation view of the tank(s), showing depth of burial, fill material, overtop, ballast or deadpan arrangements, fill, vent, vapor recovery, leak detection, and spill and overflow protection. IFC 3404.2.7.
3. Provide three copies of buoyancy calculations. Soil to be saturated to the underside of the overtop slab or to ground level. IFC 3404.2.8.5.
4. Provide a completed mechanical permit application. USBC 111.
5. Buoyancy calculations incorrect. IFC 3404.2.8.5.
  a. Safety factor < 1.5
  b. Fill weight incorrect
  c. Net weight(s) incorrect
  d. Dimensions incorrect
6. Provide three copies of cut sheets of the tank and piping, showing valid listing by a nationally recognized testing laboratory. IFC 3404.2.7.1.
7. Provide numbered street address for this project. USBC 111.4.
8. Provide/show corrosion protection for tank, piping, and hold down straps. IFC 3404.2.7.9.
9. Provide/show proper cover/depth of burial found in IFC 3404.2.7.
10. Provide leak detection/monitor wells for this tank. 3404.2.7.10.
11. Show piping and dispenser(s). Provide cut sheets for same.
12. Provide protection against vehicles. IFC 3403.6.4, 3404.2.8.6, 3404.2.9.6.5.
