Report to the Community: Actions and Recommendations - June 20, 2005 (PDF)
Building upon ideas generated at the Fairfax County Gang Prevention Summit, the report outlines the actions that have been accomplished to date and recommendations for the next steps.
Braddock District Supervisor Sharon Bulova hosted a five-part "Community Dialog" to discuss an increase in gang-related activity and revitalization issues in the Heritage Drive corridor of Annandale.
Voluntary surveys have been administered to randomly selected Fairfax County youth in 2005, 2003 and 2005. The surveys provide insight into the prevalence and frequency of substance use and other problem behaviors, as well as positive behaviors by youth. This provides Fairfax County with a barometer of the effectiveness of the community in fostering healthy choices in youth and assisting in the development of prevention and other strategies.
Overall, the survey results can provide a motivating force for community action around the opportunities and challenges identified. The survey results are used to guide the development of programs and services throughout Fairfax County. Information from youth surveys has helped direct county initiatives focused on youth, including gang prevention and teen driving.
