The Hunter Mill District is served by a wide variety of
transportation alternatives. Extensive bus service provides transportation
to and from the West Falls Church and Vienna metro stations. The W&OD trail
links the district to locations as far west as Purcellville and as far east
as Rosslyn and Alexandria, and the Fairfax County Parkway Trail allows access to
many areas south of the district. The Dulles Access and Toll Roads and
Interstate 66 are major highway connections to Washington, D.C.

- Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project - Phase 1 of the Planned "Silver Line" to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County extends Metrorail 24 miles from just west of the East Falls Church Metrorail Station through Tysons Corner (4 stations) rejoining the median in the Dulles Corridor to Wiehle Avenue in Reston. Phase II will go through Reston to Dulles International Airport to Rt. 772 in Loudoun County.
County Staff briefed the Board of Supervisors on June 4, 2007 on the Project's status and the Board approved funding for the County's share of the project on June 18, 2007. See DRPT, Dulles Rail Project, and Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) for Project Documents.
- Reston Access Management Group (RMAG).
Community participation is vital to help plan for traffic management for Reston’s future Wiehle Avenue Metrorail Station and the Reston Metrorail Station at Town Center Parkway/Sunset Hills Road near Town Center.
R-MAG: The Reston Metrorail Access Group or R- MAG was established by Supervisor Hudgins with county support in late 2006 to create a traffic and access plan along the corridor and beyond the 1/2 mile radius of Reston's future Metrorail stations at Wiehle Avenue and near Town Center. The Committee includes representatives from businesses, neighborhoods adjacent to the future stations, pedestrian, bicycle, and special needs communities, the Reston Association, Reston Citizens Association. Patty Nicoson, Executive Director of the Dulles Corridor Rail Association (DCRA), is Chairman.
R- MAG meets on the last Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM at the North County Governmental Center at 12000 Bowman Towne Drive in Reston. While these meetings are open to the public, Public Meetings with briefings on the RMAG’s progress provide an opportunity for Hunter Mill District residents to comment on progress and share concerns. The 2nd Public Meeting on Access to Reston's Future Metrorail Stations will be held on Tuesday, July 24 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Reston Town Center. RMAG will continue to meet until the spring of 2008 and two more public meetings will be held before the report is issued. - Bus Riders Council - The Hunter Mill District Bus Riders Council is comprised of a group of bus riders who meet periodically to discuss issues of concern to bus patrons. They provide input to the County on bus service and proposed changes to the service. A goal of the Bus Riders Council is to expand the membership to include representatives from each of the bus routes serving the Hunter Mill District.

- Residential
Traffic Administration Program (RTAP) guidelines are now online. The
guidelines include descriptions of the various residential traffic
programs in Fairfax County such as traffic calming, watch for
children signs, cut-through restrictions and others. Listed are the
basic program qualification criteria, program procedures and
community support requirements.
- Reston Transportation Advisory Council (RestonTAC) - A letter received in early July from Senator Janet Howell and Delegate Ken Plum to Supervisor Hudgins completes the Transportation Implementation Committee established by their legislation in 1998. In its place, Supervisor Hudgins is establishing the Reston Transportation Advisory Council (Reston TAC) to address Reston specific transportation concerns. The Reston TAC will work closely with the Wiehle Avenue Station Study PAC. In addition to our state elected representatives, Sen. Howell, and Del. Plum, invited participants include representatives from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT), FC Police Department, Reston Town Center Association, Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce, Dulles Corridor Rail Association, and other organization representatives.
- Citizen's Guide to Transportation Decision Making - The Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration have developed a guide for citizens to help them understand federal requirements in the transportation decision-making process. - VDOT will complete an Environmental Impact Statement on proposed improvements to the Capital Beltway.
