 Other Sources of Lead Exposure:

Lead In Drinking Water

Anyone whose home was built prior to 1986, or who may be particularly concerned about lead in their household plumbing, should let cold water run from the faucet for 60-90 seconds prior to using water for drinking or cooking, keeping in mind that boiling water does not reduce lead in water.

Fairfax Water is Virginia’s largest water utility, serving 1.2 million people in the Northern Virginia communities of Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Alexandria. Get the Facts About Lead in Fairfax Water’s System from their web site.

Lead In Atmospheric Air

The Fairfax County Health Department, Air Quality Section monitors atmospheric air for lead concentrations at seven locations. Fairfax County currently is well below the National Ambient Air Quality Standard for lead.
